The Sokoto Fulani are a sub-group of the much larger Fulani tribe which is spread across much of West Africa. Many of the Sokoto Fulani have also spread into southern Niger. While some Fulani living in this area are educated aristocrats, others are Bororo, or semi-nomadic herdsmen (part-time shepherds, part-time farmers). The Sokoto Fulani are thus composed of the ruling class (Toroobe) and the semi-nomadic shepherds (Bororo). The area they occupy is open grassland with narrow forested zones.
Muslim family leaders view Christianity as a threat to their culture and way of life. Few of them would allow their people to publicly put their faith in Christ without serious consequences.
If there are believers who are skilled in drilling for water or providing medical care, they could make positive contact with Sokoto Fulani leaders, who in turn, can open the door for the life of Jesus to be shared.
Only about one in 1,000 Sokoto Fulanis follows the Lord, so pray that these few believers will be strengthened by the Holy Spirit to withstand persecution and extend His grace no matter what comes their way.
* Pray for Jesus movements to influence extended Fulani families so the gospel will spread rapidly. * Pray for spiritual hunger among the Sokoto Fulani people, and that they will seek and find their Savior. * Pray for Sokoto Fulani families to be drawn by the Holy Spirit to seek forgiveness, and to cling to the adequacy of Christ's work on the cross.
